Most commercial kitchens would not be able to operate without cooking oil for their fryers. When foodservice establishments use cooking oil, it is important that the oil is handled properly from the time it arrives until it is picked up for recycling after use. Mishandling cooking oil at any stage can cause spills that increase the risk of burns and injuries and can harm the natural environment.
Once cooking oil is used up, it needs to be handled and stored properly before it is picked up for recycling. Used cooking oil should never be poured down a drain because it can harm the plumbing and sewage system. Used cooking oil is detrimental to the environment too. Also, your establishment can be fined for improperly dumping used cooking oil because most municipalities have codes forbidding this. All commercial kitchens must have a system in place for handling and storing used cooking oil.
At Mahoney Environmental, we provide used cooking oil recycling services. This includes picking up used cooking oil and equipment such as cooking oil tanks to transport and store used oil. In this guide, we will discuss the types of commercial used cooking oil containers we offer for foodservice establishments to store their used oil before it is picked up for recycling.

Used Cooking Oil Collection Tanks from Mahoney Environmental
We offer several used cooking oil collection tanks that foodservice businesses can use to safely and securely store their cooking oil after it has been used. When you work with us to have your used cooking oil picked up and recycled, our professionals will come and empty your collection tank when it becomes full.
We offer the following used cooking oil receptacles:
Bulk Tank
Our Bulk Tank is the standard receptacle for used cooking oil. These tanks can be used by any type of foodservice establishment. The Mahoney Shuttle is the best cooking oil transport device to use with this collection tank.
SecureTrack
We offer the SecureTrack (ST-12) for two different applications:
- Basic set-up: The basic set-up ST-12 is an upgrade of our standard Bulk Tank as it has a secure locking lid that will protect your oil and allow you to get the full value for it.
- Enhanced set-up: The ST-12 can be enhanced with additional options including heat for block shortening users, a level sensor system to monitor the level inside the tank, and/or plumbing for a Direct Connection system.
Depending on the set-up, either the Mahoney Shuttle or Direct Connection is the best oil transport system to use with this tank.
Metro SecureTrack
The Metro SecureTrack (MST-12) is a smaller version of the ST-12. This tank can also be set up for two different applications:
- Basic set-up: The MST-12 is similar to the ST-12 but it is smaller to fit on a 4’ by 2’ or 6’ by 2’ shelving unit. This is an ideal collection tank for restaurants that don’t have much interior space.
- Enhanced set-up: Like the ST-12, the MST-12 can also be upgraded with the following enhancements: heat for block shortening users, a level sensor to monitor oil levels in the tank, and plumbing for a Direct Connection system.
The best option for oil transport into this tank is either the Shuttle or Direct Connection depending on the set up.
ClearView
The ClearView Tank is a basic oil collection tank for indoor storage. It is safe and secure and can be set up to be incorporated into a Direct Connection system. The best transport option is the PFM or Direct Connection depending on the set up.
Direct Connection Outdoor Recycler
The Direct Connection Outdoor Recycler tank is perfect for foodservice establishments that do not have any room inside for a collection tank. This cooking oil collection tank is put outside, and the used cooking oil is fed into it via a pipeline that travels from the fryer and through the exterior wall into the tank. With the Direct Connection system, you just have to flip a switch to send the used cooking oil from the fryers to the collection tank.
The only way to use the Direct Connection Outdoor Recycler is with the Direct Connection system.
