Employee Spotlight – Raul Bravo

Welcome to the Employee Spotlight

Welcome to another edition of the Mahoney ‘Employee Spotlight’!  This spotlight is our way to reflect on and draw positive attention to the most important assets of Mahoney – its employees! A functioning business cannot function without a solid team in place, and we are extra proud of that team.  Every couple of weeks, an employee will be nominated and featured.  Next up is Raul Bravo.

What is your role at the company? How long have you been with Mahoney and what position did you start at?

R:  I mainly focus on Preferred Oil, but I also work with waste oil as a field technician and I help build and install systems. I have been with Mahoney a year and a half as an installer.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Mahoney, whose job would you want?

R:  I don’t know all the jobs at Mahoney, but being a salesman sounds interesting to me.

How do you balance your career at Mahoney with family life?

R:  Since my hours vary at work, I try to make the most of my time with my family, especially on the weekends.

What is on your wish list for the next five years at ME?

R:  I want to gain as much experience as I can and maybe take a course in Electricity to further my knowledge.

What is your favorite aspect of your job?

R:  My favorite aspect of the job is that it is never boring. You never know day by day what you will be doing or what customer you will be helping.

What has been your favorite project that you worked on here at Mahoney?

R:  There have been a couple. The first, since I am a huge Cubs fan, being able to work inside Wrigley Field has been awesome.  The other, being a part of the Bojangles’ project to build and deliver over 300 pieces of equipment was fun.

What drew you to Mahoney when you initially started and how has the company changed since then?

R:  The possibility of being able to advance your career with hard work was what first drew me to Mahoney.  It hasn’t changed in that area.

Before working at Mahoney, what was the most interesting or unusual job you had?

R: I was a machine operator and heavy equipment operator at Scott’s Miracle Gro for 16 years.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

R:  The most challenging part of my job is working by myself, especially in restaurants that are busy and have tight spaces. Sometimes walking blocks because there is no parking, especially downtown or the airports, with all my equipment and parts that I need for the job can be hard.  Different start times can be challenging too.  Having to start at 2 am and adjusting my sleep schedule can be difficult.

Share your proudest moment since coming on board at Mahoney?

R: My proudest moment was the day I was able to do seven successful service calls in one day.

What are three words you’d use to describe Mahoney Environmental?

R:  Challenging, engaging and rewarding.

Miscellaneous Questions (non-job related)

Do you have a favorite or inspirational quote to share?

R:  As I tell my kids, “Lazy people work twice.”

Best vacation you have been on?

R: The only non-work related traveling I do is visit my family in Mexico.

If you could change careers right now, what would you choose?

R:  I would play first base or center field for the Chicago Cubs.

If you could interview one person in the world (dead or alive), who would it be, and why?

R: My dad, who passed away in 1995, because I have too many unanswered questions.  I wish I could have more time to talk to him and hear his stories.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

R:  Mr. Rogers.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?

R: I just watched Stranger Things, Season 3, but I haven’t started anything new lately.

Choose your Mr. Men/Little Miss character (the original emoji from the 70’s/80’s) to describe your work personality? Your home life personality?

R: Work personality: Mr. Strong  /  Home life: Mr. Silly

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

R:  I would want to heal myself, like Wolverine.

People would be surprised if they knew what about you or what’s your secret talent that no one knows about?

R:  I can cook pretty well.  I really like doing it.

Three words that best describe you?

R: Motivated, assertive and a goofball.
